Gary Lane Bio
Gary Lane literally grew up with the stock market. His father, Carl, was a stockbroker on Wall St. until the late 70s. Gary has been doing stock analysis from a very young age, reading and analyzing stock information from the Wall Street Journal with his father. His first job on Wall Street was working on the floor of the American Stock Exchange, moving stock certificates for buy-and-sell orders. He then trained under an executive at a then very large firm on Wall Street, E.F. Hutton & Co., which is no longer in existence.
He currently runs GreenRoomStocks.com, where he share his views, stock picks, analysis, and over 30 years of stock market experience with members from all over the world. He is also a published author, having collaborated on two trading books, along with being a very successful trader and formerly one of the "Three Tenors of StockTrading"
He has collaborated on a series of books on momentum trading, Catch a Wave and Beneath the Waves, available for purchase on our books page. He has additional book projects planned in the near future.
Gary Lane's trading style can best be described as adaptable to any market conditions. He will hold positions anywhere from a day or two to many months, depending on the stock's behavior, news/earnings, and overall market conditions. In favorable market conditions, he will hold a core position of long term investments while short term swing trading both long and short.
He has developed his own system for picking stocks, using a combination of price & volume analysis with momentum/volatility measurement, and technical analysis techniques such as price pattern recognition, trendlines, and moving averages, etc. After narrowing down only the best looking charts using technical analysis, he then cross checks this list for the companies with the best management and strongest fundamental info. Gary has become one of the best traders and teachers of momentum investing and technical analysis in the trading world today. Gary most recently showed his superior stock picking abilities by finishing the 2007 CNBC Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge in the first percentile out of over 375,000 entrants. His portfolio went up over 42%, or $420,000, in just 10 weeks.
Gary, as well as being known for his ability to pick high momentum breakout stocks, is also known for his ability to call stocks that have been in a long downtrend (weeks, months, and even years) and suddenly make a reversal, shooting up for large gains in a few short days or weeks. Many times in our chat room, Gary has predicted to nearly the cent when these profitable reversals will occur.
He is also known for his ability to pick penny stocks – low priced stocks, usually under $1. Gary’s penny stock recommendations have often increased hundreds of percentage points in months, weeks, sometimes even days!
